Volunteers Needed

The Iselin District #11 Fire Department is currently looking for motivated volunteers. Please scroll down for more information about us and how you can become part of our Department.

Facts about our Fire Department:

  • Answer over 400 alarms each year
  • Two fire stations, Auth Avenue & New Dover Road
  • Fire protection for a large portion of Iselin & Colonia
  • Active volunteer firefighters who are your neighbors & friends
  • Countless hours of training
  • State of Art fire apparatus, motor vehicle extrication & rescue equipment

BENEFITS

Additional Training Courses

  • The Fire Department makes available any training course given by the Middlesex County Fire Academy to active volunteers. These courses cover a broad range of topics including additional firefighting applications, HazMat and rescue courses and EMT certification and are paid for by the department.

LOSAP

  • LOSAP or Length of Service Award Program provides a "retirement" benefit based on volunteer activity in the department and total length of service. Members become eligible for LOSAP benefits after the completion of 5 years of active service.

Tuition Reimbursement

  • The Woodbridge Township Council has approved participation in a State of New Jersey plan whereby active volunteers may be eligible for partial tuition reimbursement from approved colleges provided they meet certain requirements. This program is funded by the Township of Woodbridge.

Workmen's Compensation Plan

  • As a member of Fire Department, you will be covered by Workmen's Compensation for any injuries sustained while performing firefighting duties.

Life Insurance

  • Life insurance is provided at no cost to members of the Department.

Community Center Membership Discount

  • The YMCA at the Woodbridge Community Center offers members a 50% discount on membership.

REQUIREMENTS TO VOLUNTEER 

  • Between the ages of 18 and 45
  • U.S. citizen and resident of Iselin area (Iselin and Colonia)
  • Complete background check
  • Valid NJ Drivers License
  • Pass a physical examination (paid by Fire Department)
  • Complete Firefighter 1 training (paid by Fire Department)
  • Respond to a certain minimum number of calls per year
